Improving conservation status of the S. brachyodon

Together with the researchers, volunteers and donor representatives CEPF, on 26. and 27.07. EnvPro team visited the Mt. Orjen in the transboundary area in BiH and Montenegro, with the aim of continuous monitoring and care for endemic and threatened plant species within realisation of the new project Conservation of endemic, rare and threatened plant species on Mt. Orjen – 2nd Phase.

We found steno-endemic Iris orjenii translocated populations in fair condition.

Just alongside the Montenegrin border crossing, we’ve also visited the populations of the Linum elegans – an alpine, endemic dwarf flax.

In the Podštirovik area, we’ve tried collecting seeds of a Balkan steno-endemic short-toothed sage Salvia brachyodon, but they were yet to mature.

Thus, on the 16.08. we’ve paid another visit to this population, and this time had our hands full with many seeds from different individuals.

We’re planning to use these to sprout the young plants, and in due time translocate them to the appropriate Orjen Mt. localities in Montenegrin side with the aim of improving conservation status of the S. brachyodon.
