Ana Katnic is one of the three founders and serves as the Executive Director of the NGO Environment Programe.
She completed her undergraduate studies in biology at the University of Montenegro, while earning her master's degree at Uppsala University (Sweden) in the Biodiversity Management program. She has been working in environmental conservation for over twenty years. Her professional focus is on integrated and transdisciplinary approaches, climate change, sustainable development, management, policy development, education, as well as participatory processes and collaboration.
Throughout her career, she has held a number of responsible positions in national and international institutions and organizations, including work in National Parks, the Netherlands Development Cooperation (SNV), the UNESCO office, the Global Partnership for Water in the Mediterranean, the Environmental Protection Agency - EPA, the Austrian Environmental Agency - UBA, and has had numerous expert engagements with UNEP, UNDP, FAO, WWF, universities in Montenegro and Germany, institutions, and non-governmental organizations.
Within the Environment Programe, she leads the strategic and programmatic development and implementation of projects in the areas of the latest biodiversity conservation practices, following an ecosystem approach, management of water and other resources, resilience and adaptation to climate change, sustainable development aspects, capacity building, and the empowerment of stakeholders. A special contribution of her work is seen in connecting science, public policy, and practice, as well as in building cooperation between institutions, local communities, civil society, and international partners, with the goal of the long-term conservation of nature and sustainable development of Montenegro and the region.
