The project represents the continuation of conservation efforts for the rare and stenoendemic plant species Iris orjenii, and several other including Salvia brachyodon (short-toothed sage). The aim is to conduct the monitoring, conservation, capacity building and policy level integration as well as to create sustainability of actions. Dedicated translocation of Salvia brachyodon specimens to suitable sites as well as implementation of monitoring protocols to track the success of translocation and ensure ongoing conservation activities is planned. Visit and maintenance of the new botanical garden we established in the phase I is also envisaged.
The gathered strong and lasting partnership consisted of University Primorska – FAMIT from Slovenia and Nature History Museum Rijeka from Croatia, lead expert Boštjan Surina, local experts, young researches and EnvPro are dedicated to the project results, but also scale up and replication (do contact us for joining and support), so far had enabled integration into Montenegro's list of protected species, draft Spatial Plan until 2040, consideration for the IUCN's Mediterranean Red List of Species.
Project Duration is 12 months with a start date: Jun 15th, 2024. Project is supported by Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund - CEPF/ Bird Life within Strategic Direction 4: Strengthen the engagement of civil society to support the conservation of plants that are critically endangered or have highly restricted ranges.
